OLGA

After joining us in summer 2020, Olga has gone from strength to strength, not only being a valuable player for the newly formed girls team, but a great role model and ambassador for all at LDM. She has shown herself to be reliable and open to taking on new challenges, this includes her support of our first Black History Month basketball event, to pitching, developing and delivering on a mental health project with the support of Street Games, helping to spread awareness of youth mental health at a crucial time after the lock down period. With one of our main priorities as an organisation being to provide more opportunities for female players, Olga proves what great things can happen when these opportunities are provided.

What They Say

“I have been playing basketball from a young age, not wanting to be the only family member who didn’t and following in the footsteps of my older brother. I fell out of love with the sport once I reached high school and tried many sports in between to take up my time. I never expected to return to basketball but Loran and LDM gave me that opportunity when I happened to be at the same place they were hosting a training session. LDM continues to teach me lessons such as coaching and even taking my refereeing course.

For the months that I have been at LDM I have fallen back into heavily enjoying the sport I once used to love and find myself volunteering in every opportunity I get given here. Being played in tournaments and having my first LDM U18s girls game has massively improved my confidence and skill from when I started, until now. I am grateful for LDM for more reasons than just being taught how to play the sport but also providing me with life long friendships and mentors I look up to.” - Olga
