Northern Ballers

Northern Ballers Documentary

In 2019, film maker Rhys Aaron Lewis followed the newly formed Leeds LDM U16 team in their first season in the Basketball England Regional League. The film highlights the importance basketball plays in the lives of many young people in Leeds and it why it is important that opportunities are provided to enable them to develop and excel in a safe and nurturing environment. It also shows the importance that adequate facilities play in the development of the British game and how the lack thereof threatens to hinder the progress of basketball in this country. This point holds even more weight given the fact that since the films completion, the Mandela Community Centre, where much of the film is set, has been closed to public use and is still awaiting approval to be open since being turned into a COVID -19 test centre during the pandemic. Despite the facility set back, LDM as an organisation have continued to thrive since ‘Northern Ballers’ and are pleased to see the progress we have made since our very humble beginnings!
